Tampere University of Technology Selected SSH Tectia to Protect Data Communications in the University Network
The SSH Tectia University Licensing Program enables cost-effective deployment and maintenance of commercially supported Secure Shell
SSH Communications Security (HEX:SSH1V), a world-leading provider of enterprise security solutions and end-to-end communications security, and the original developer of the Secure Shell protocol, today announced that Tampere University of Technology has selected the SSH Tectia Client and Server products to secure data communications in the university network. The SSH Tectia University Licensing Program allows the university to cost-effectively deploy and maintain the SSH Tectia client/server solution throughout its large-scale network. With SSH Tectia, both students and faculty members can establish encrypted and authenticated connections between Windows XP –based workstations and university servers. The university’s use cases include secure file transfer, secure terminal access, and application tunneling. Tampere University of Technology plans to gradually expand the deployment of SSH Tectia to thousands of workstations covering both classrooms and staff workstations.
“In the past we have secured selected workstation connections with SSH Secure Shell, the predecessor of SSH Tectia,” says Martti Jokipii, systems specialist at Tampere University of Technology. “With the affordable SSH Tectia licensing program aimed at universities, we can cost-effectively upgrade to a commercially supported Secure Shell solution that fulfills all our requirements. Especially the centralized management features of SSH Tectia allow us to include communications security as a part of our university-wide centralized software maintenance, enabling expanded use and reduced TCO.”
“SSH Tectia, an enterprise-class security solution designed for large and diverse IT environments, is based on the Secure Shell technology, which gained a strong foothold in academic networks right after its introduction by Tatu Ylönen and SSH Communications Security in 1995,” says Arto Vainio, CEO of SSH Communications Security Corp. “With the SSH Tectia University Licensing Program, universities worldwide can easily expand their use of the Secure Shell technology to new application areas such as enhanced file transfer and application tunneling. We are very delighted that Tampere University of Technology selected SSH Tectia for securing the university network.”
